Thanks for the article about the Mennonites on the Illinois prairie. I grew up in that area in the 50s in a Baptist family with the KJV, the Hardy Boys books, and 5 cent RC Cola.
Upon reading about arguing with science deniers, I re-read Bonhoeffer's essay on Dumbness (Dumbheit). He faced an extreme form of it, and it killed him. He was right.
Friendship, while it may not be essential to a life based on philosophy, is still important in helping us to develop a balanced sense of self and community.
